Update: Atlantic Road
The main parking and cafe along the Atlantic Road; Eldhusøya, will be closed from now and until end of May 2026 due to an upgrade of the restrooms.
Upgrade at Eldhusøya - leads to closed parking
The parking area at Eldhusøya along road 64, will be closed from now and until the end of May 2026 due to upgrades to the restrooms in Eldhuset Cafe. This means that the entire parking area around the café will be closed during the construction period.
This also means that anyone wishing to visit the Atlantic Road and stop to walk along the elevated path on Eldhusøya will unfortunately not be able to do so during the construction period. As soon as possible, parts of the parking area will be reopened to traffic.
We apologize for this and any inconvenience it may cause for planned visits to the Atlantic Road in May 2026.
- The reason for the closure is that the wastewater system is being rebuilt, and new infrastructure needs to be installed underground. This is time-consuming due to the large amount of rocks in the ground. The parking area and the walking path around the island will be made accessible as soon as possible, but for the safety of visitors, the area cannot be open to the public while rock drilling is taking place and larger vehicles need to move in and out safely. The restrooms and the café will reopen as soon as everything is ready for use, says Lars Erik Rødstøl of Statens vegvesen.
